CORDIAL CONNECTICUT

It is difficult to find an authentic Indian/Pakistani restaurant in the USA that serves traditional cuisine. Surfing through several google reviews and pictures we accidentally found this stunning Pakistani restaurant called Nina’s Desi Kitchen. After having a hectic day in our Connecticut’s weekend-getaway, what amazed me the most were the conviviality and the cordiality of Atif & Kainat. Husband and wife, who serve the community with their very own recipes and decorated their restaurant with hand made decorations. It’s a sweet, little-heaven. The down to earth personality and humility of them creates a cozy atmosphere and the ambiance is something we can call dining at home. The couple welcomed us with such warmth, that we were halfway full with their generosity. “Nina’s desi kitchen” is one place you shouldn’t miss out if you are travelling to Connecticut.

As I mentioned before, we had a bad day in the morning. For that kind of a day the only way to bring my smile back is having a hot cup of masala chai (Give me a hot cup of tea and a good movie to watch and I’m a happy camper – my way ). YES! I am a tea enthusiast, so we ordered masala chai. They gave us complimentary chai and Sooji Ka Halwa (Dessert) which we can’t rate, the taste is outstanding and simply delicious!! I can travel all the way to Connecticut again just to drink it all over again. We were humbled and whispered under our breath, what an end to a day that began otherwise.

On our way back from The Devil’s Hopyard we wanted to grab a quick snack and masala chai. After researching on the web we found this astonishing modern day bistro, The Himalaya Cafe – Indian Bistro & Bar Lounge located in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Since it was the only Indian restaurant near us we drove 15 min to just to get our snacks. Sadly they did not have what we wanted, rather a limited menu with special drinks and Entree’s due to the 2nd phase of reopening prior to the COVID -19 pandemic. But they were nice enough to treat us with free chai. They also offered us Cheesecake – Passion-fruit Tart, that was my first ever to try amazing tart, which didn’t fail to impress me.

Check my pics and also don’t forget to follow them on Instagram @the_himalaya_cafe.

A big shout out and special thanks to the staff members at Himalaya’s Cafe, especially to Man (Man without the super) and Seema (the manager). Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to meet the Executive Chef and Sous Chef to thank them for their efforts.
